To love…….

To save her son, there is nothing she won’t do. To save his people, neither will he. Dire circumstances force Kara McGurkie to forget she’s a woman. Dire circumstances force her to swear to love and honor, to help destroy a clan in order to get back the life she lost. But when dire circumstances force her to seduce her fiancé’s brother on the eve of the wedding, will the dark secrets she holds and the things she wants most, be enough to save her and them, from his powerful allure, especially when she knows he may just be playing with her.

Callm McDunnagh, the Black Wolf of Lochalpin, ruthlessly guards heart and glen from dangerous intruders. But from the moment he first sees Kara he knows he must possess her, even though he also knows that surrendering to his desire may prove the most dangerous risk of all.

And betray…;

Now no problem becomes big problem as passion and desire rage out of control. Kara must look into the soul she thought she sold to make a choice. But can she look deep enough? Only she can decide who and what passion can save, or destroy, how when and who will finally learn the truth of the words… Till death do us part.

Kara is sent to Lochalpin to marry and destroy her fiancé’s clan. Drived by the need to save her son, Arland, from under her father's rule, she must do as he bid. However, when she gets to Lochalpin, she's attracted to her fiancé’s brother, Callm. Callm is sexy and full of prowess but still gentle, caring, and sensitive to Kara's needs. To save her son and obtain her desires, Kara needs to draw on her courage and become a very strong and cunning woman to win Callm's heart and her son back from her father.

I like how the romance and confessions from Kara comes out like pulling teeth. It is hard for Kara to lie about being a virgin and being someone she is not. It becomes even harder for her to tell Callm the truth about her family, Arland, herself, and how she feels about him. On the downside, their progress feels so slow and the big rescue at the end seems too fast in comparison.

The dungeon scene when Callm rescues Arland is a little disorienting because the setting is super different. All the women act savagely and it doesn't connect with what was previously mentioned in the story. Or at least it is not how I imagine the dungeon to be like and then the scene is over as soon as it began.

The romance and love between Kara and Callm builds up, shimmers, and settle into something long-lasting for themselves, their family, and their clans. I can walk away knowing these characters will really make it work and have a HEA ending forever. This is an entertaining read that really sets you into Localpin to experience its culture, language, the politics, and of course, romance.
