Aaron Weiss knows how to escape. Years ago, he ran from a romantic disappointment and impulsively joined the Army. Now, he’s forced to take a medical discharge and readjusting to life at home proves a challenge.
Jesse Ross knows how to hide. He realizes he’s an oddball, and that he’s an outsider within his own family. He also knows his secret love since childhood, Aaron, only wants his good-looking, favored older brother. Yet Jesse could never completely abandon his intense feelings for Aaron. Over the years, Jesse was a faithful pen pal to him. Still, he's shocked to his core to find Aaron on his doorstep.
As long-buried secrets and past hurts take center stage, the two are overwhelmingly drawn to each other. But it’s their future that may force them to risk everything.

Aaron has a crush on Gregory since he was a kid, but when they kiss, Aaron is horribly rejected. He joins the Army to leave his troubles behind. Ten years later, Aaron still holds a torch for Gregory. An unexpected visit to Jesse's house in the wilds to get him to attend a social party leads Aaron to discover Jesse's crush on him. Jesse is Gregory's kid brother and the odd ball in the family, but he is also a great pen pal to Aaron in the years when he was in the Army. How will Aaron chose between a wild man living in the woods and a pristine, business man in the city?
Jesse uses poor hospitality to get Aaron to leave his home but fate has it that they must stick together for awhile because of a broken car. Jesse is full of surprise, despite his unkempt appearance. He's an artist, brews his own beer, an animal and nature lover, and somehow comes to term with being the black sheep of his perfectly-socially-acceptable and elite family. Of course, he's jealous of Gregory because he holds Aaron's love, so he tries to push Aaron away to prevent breaking his own heart.
This story is little bit angsty because Jesse has unrequited love over Aaron but Aaron is love with Gregory, who's straight. Added to that, Jesse and Gregory are brothers. My heart goes out to Jesse who's at a disadvantage.
Aaron is out of the army but jobless. He still wants Gregory and when he learns Gregory broke up with his girlfriend, he is hopeful. But Jesse is giving him mixed signals. Sometimes they get along so well but other times Jesse will avoid him, and that intrigues him. He's at a very confused state throughout the story but still actively trying to piece things together and figure what and who he wants.
The story builds up to the moment of the social party but Jesse's relationship with Aaron is still troubled. I feel like a second story line sneaked in by exploring deeper family troubles on both sides. The ending is held back until Jesse and Aaron are 100% together as a couple and out to the world.
Overall, this is a very fulfilling read. Highly recommended.
